Buddhism is a religion founded by Lord Buddha. Buddhism is an Indian religion credited to teachings of Gautama Buddha. Buddhism is a religion and dharma which comprises of numerous traditions, beliefs and spiritual practices based on teaching related to Lord Buddha. Buddhism was originated between the 6th and 4th centuries BCE. The word budhi means awaken.

Buddha was born in Lumbini and grew up in Kapilavatthu. Childhood name of Buddha is Siddhartha Gautama. He was son of King Suddhodana and Queen Maya. Buddha was also known as Shakyamuni because of born in Shakyas community.

Two major branches of Buddhism is Theravada- The School of the Elders and Mahayana-The Great Vehicle. It is fourth-largest religion in the world.

Ultimate goal of Theravada Buddhism is to attainment of the sublime state of Nirvana by practicing the Noble Eightfold Path, called as Middle Way. Theravada Buddhism is found Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia. Mahayana is found in East Asia. Tibetan Buddhism is practiced in surrounding Himalayas, Mongolia and Kalmykia. Tibetan Buddhism preserves the Vajrayana teachings of eighth century India.


Four Noble Truths of Buddha:

1.Suffering exists

2.Suffering arises from desires

3.Suffering ceases when desire ceases

4.Freedom from suffering is practicing the Eightfold Path.

The Eightfold path according to Lord Buddha: Right View, Thought, Speech, Action, Livelihood, Effort, Mindfulness, Concentration

Lumbini: Birthplace of the Buddha

Bodhgaya:  Attain Enlightenment under a tree known as Bodhi Tree.

Sarnath: First Speech after Enlightenment n Deer park.

Kapilvastu: Lord Buddha had spent his first twenty-nine years.

Kushinagar: Lord Buddha got parinirvana.
